How to restore former saltworks lagoons and marshes for resilience against erosion and submersion?
The feedback sheets developed by CDC-Biodiversité, the French UICN Committee, and the OFB as part of the Life ARTISAN project aim to inspire public and private decision-makers, planners, forest and agricultural landowners, or protected area managers interested in implementing a Nature-Based Solutions project. They offer insights into socio-economic and ecological contexts, funding sources, stakeholders, governance, implemented actions, outcomes, monitoring indicators, success factors, and recommendations.
The project aims to restore the lagoons and marshes of the former Camargue saltworks. It contributes to addressing erosion and submersion issues by reinstating a buffer zone function on part of the site. Additionally, it provides benefits for biodiversity by enhancing the quality and diversity of landscapes, as well as promoting the presence of various plant and animal species. Lastly, the project allows for multifunctional use of the site, facilitating activities such as ecotourism, fishing, hunting, and grazing.
